Facebook Chat allows its users to chat with others from all over the world, a new way for its users to communicate with their friends in real-time. This feature is provided free.
Many a times Facebook Chat goes down, or it will display an error message “Unable to connect to chat”, and people go frustrated to get it back but yet people don’t find proper solutions. Here are some of the steps that you can do to get back your facebook chat alive again.
1. Specify Open DNS address in the internet Protocol settings
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center
Then open Wireless or LAN properties and do the following.
2. Check for Flash Player
Sometimes there might be problem with your Flash player also, so try installing flash player again. Following are the two flash players you can download and install
Additional softwares like Adobe Air can add up to your browsing speed.
3. Update your Operating system
These steps might solve your problem!!!

Thanks, the problem is already solved. The issue was with https. When it changed it to http, the chat started working.
Its always advised to open websites in https, which make sure that the contents are secure/encrypted

Dear Sir,
Thank you for wanting to help me. This problem has been occuring since the past 3 weeks or so and to my knowledge is faced by many out there. Upon logging to facebook, it momentarily connects to the chat but then immediately disconnects, giving an error “Unable to connect to chat. Try again.”
Despite trying again, it doesn’t connect. I have no inkling as to why is this happening and would be grateful to you, if you can help me find a solution. I have tried using different browsers as well.
